Wilson argues the widely reported polls are often small push polls designed to demoralize, and that Question 10 is not a vote on independence. Option 1 endorses the status quo (Alberta remains a province and Ottawa’s current treatment is acceptable). Option 2 directs the Alberta government to begin the constitutional process toward a future binding referendum on separation, creating leverage for serious negotiations on equalization, taxation, criminal justice, immigration, and other federal powers currently controlled outside Alberta.
