«Today’s video is personal — but it speaks to something much bigger happening across Alberta. I share a story that helps explain why I, and so many others, no longer see ourselves the way we once did. For a growing number of people here, the identity that feels real isn’t “Canadian” anymore. It’s Albertan.
Many of the voices in this movement once proudly called themselves Canadian. That changed only recently, pushed along by different moments and different breaking points. For some, it was the pandemic. For others, it was federal policies around firearms. For many, it was the feeling that freedom, opportunity, and open debate were slipping away.
Everyone has their own turning point — their own moment when something snapped into focus and they realized they were done waiting for a country that no longer felt like theirs.
In this video, I walk through one of those stories. Not to convince anyone, but to help people understand why so many Albertans have stepped away from the idea of Canada entirely.»
