«Should Albertans reject all nine reform questions—or judge each on its own merits, regardless of where they stand on Alberta independence?
Stockwell Day joins Nadine Wellwood on Sovereign Voice to challenge the “No to the Nine” campaign and examine what the Alberta referendum questions could mean for provincial autonomy, immigration, public services and the balance of power with Ottawa.
The former federal opposition leader and Alberta provincial treasurer argues that Albertans should not dismiss opportunities for greater control simply because they disagree with another question on the ballot.
Nadine and Stockwell work through the nine proposals, discussing immigration policy, eligibility for provincially funded services, proof of citizenship for provincial voting, judicial appointments, Senate abolition and federal interference in provincial responsibilities.
But this is not a blanket endorsement of every proposal.
Stockwell opposes abolishing the Senate. He makes the case for an elected, equal and effective Senate instead, arguing that removing it could weaken Western Canada’s ability to be heard. Nadine challenges him on whether meaningful reform is achievable when Ottawa can disregard Alberta’s choices.
They then turn to Question 10—and their biggest disagreement.
Stockwell favours remaining in Canada and warns that beginning the separation process could create uncertainty for investment and jobs. Nadine argues that supporting the next step could give Alberta negotiating leverage, and that federal policy already creates uncertainty.
Can Alberta secure meaningful change inside Canada—or does Ottawa need a stronger reason to listen?
